Choice Traditions
Note:
Since first creating the Carolers, Joyce Byers
has varied the designs of the Traditional and Victorian Men, Women,
Girls and Boys. With these items, only 100 were made in any one
style: outfit and accessories. This is still true for open stock
Traditional and Victorian family members. Therefore, designs vary.
They are produced in what Byers calls Green, Red or "Other".
The color denoted the predominate color of the Carolers clothing.
The "Other"
color is often—but not always—a shade of blue.
Since
2007, Joyce also designed six families per year. Each has a Man
(some years had two), Woman, a Boy, and a Girl. Three of these
are Traditional designs and three are Victorian. The concept allows
collectors to create themed displays and permits stores to re-order
family members who will match the remaining pieces in a coordinated
look.
The
Traditional series from 2007 to 2009 have been:
2007 A: All of these Carolers have some piece of clothing in a
red and white gingham check.
2007 B: These Carolers are all wearing bulky knit red sweaters.
There are two men in the series, one of whom carries a toddler.
This series is the only Traditional Family set available in African
American design.
2007 C: All of these family members hold postcards in some form
and are dressed in green tops and red plaid.
2008
Family in Green: Girl holds postcards, Dad a wreath; all are in
dark green and white.
2008 Family with Babies: In navy and plaid. Mom holds a baby and
Dad holds a toddler.
2008 Family with Gingerbread: Each holds lots of gingerbread cookies,
houses, and ornaments.
2009
Family with Chocolates: Each holds delicious chocolate candies.
2009 Sporting Family: Mom & Dad hold sporting pennants, Boy
& Girl have soccer balls and outfits.
2009 Family with Gingerbread (held over from 2008)
The
Victorian Series from 2007 to 2009 have been:
2007 A: These family members are dressed to trim a tree: red and
green velvets, holding tree toppers and ornaments.
2007 B: These are very formal, all dressed in gold moiré taffeta,
black velvets, and felts. The carry sweets and champagne. . This
series is the only Victorian Family set available in African American
design.
2007 C: The Series C family all hold something related to music:
a concertina, a music stand, a post horn and a carol book. They
are dressed in tans and rose.
2008
Family in Red & Cream: Dad holds a magnolia wreath; Girl holds
a favorite doll.
2008 Family in Green Velvet: Dad bears gifts & champagne.
The gals hold real fur muffs.
2008 Family Decorating Tree: Mom holds a tree topper star; Dad
a box of ornaments. Black velvet and red taffeta plaids predominate.
2009
Family with Sleds: All are in elegant pastel velvets; Boy &
Girl hold flat-runner sleds.
2009 Family with Musical Instruments: Girl with violin, Boy, Dad
& Mom with brass horns.
2009 Family in Green & Gold: All are dressed in dark green
velvet and a fabulous striped damask fabric.
In
2010 Joyce once again has introduced six families, but she has
not designated them as Traditional versus Victorian. For 2010
the families are:
Family with Postcards (Traditional dress)
Family Roasting Marshmallows (Traditional dress)
Family with Gingerbread (Traditional dress, held over from 2008
& 2009)
Family with Skates (velvets & plaids)
Family with Chocolates (Victorian dress)
Family with Music (plaids)
